This fence is in front of the old Cornstalk Fence House
at 915 Royal Street in the Old French Quarter. Legend has it that the original owner of the house married a young woman from Iowa. The fence was to remind her of the corn fields of her home state. It predates the Civil War.
Harriet Beecher Stowe is rumored to have stayed here and to have gotten her inspiration for Uncle Tom's Cabin from the auctions at the nearby slave markets.
