Description: We have driven down the Chain of Craters road at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park several times. The road begins near the Kilauea Crater and winds down to the sea. It once followed the shore line through subdivisions until reaching the road back to Hilo, but has been cut since 1983 by repeated lava flows.
On our way back up toward Kilauea one afternoon, this scene revealed itself capturing the moldering sense of the volcano.
